It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Port Washington Police District website. We appreciate your interest and encourage you to visit us here often.
It is my honor to have served as your Chief of Police since 1993 and to be representative of the 60 sworn officers and the 20 full time and part time civilian employees dedicated to serving this community. Day in and day out they are at the ready to respond quickly to your emergency and everyday needs.
The Port Washington Police District has been in existence since 1921, when we were created by an act of the New York State Legislature.
We cover a large area of the Town of North Hempstead as well as the Incorporated Villages of Port Washington North and Baxter Estates. We are governed by the Police District Commission, consisting of three elected Police Commissioners serving alternating three-year terms.
The Police District is very diverse for an agency of this size. Besides having an aggressive patrol division, we also have specialized units. To augment patrol we have the Traffic Safety Enforcement Unit (Motorcycle Unit) and the Community Oriented Police/ Crime Prevention Unit. We also have a full Detective Division with detectives assigned to Local Investigations, a Narcotics Bureau, A Gang/Special Investigations Unit, a Juvenile Aid Bureau and a School Resource Officer.
It will always be the goal of the men and women of the Port Washington Police District to provide the finest quality and most professional law enforcement services to our community. If you ever have any questions or concerns, or need help of any kind please contact me at 883-0500 extension 305.
